Kids clothing is big business these days; I find myself drawn to the small shops with great people designing this statement apparel. I’m loving the brands Elseware Co., Vicarious Clothing, Dear Cub, Indie Nook, and Kid + Kind. In the same vein that we created The Be Kind Collection, these small companies are creating apparel in the spirit of childhood with a dose of deeper meaning. Here are some pics of my favorites lately.
I love this brand for the sweet messages they inject into their designs and the good they are doing in the world. Their tees remind me my boy is only a child once. This husband and wife duo are chasing their entrepreneurial dream and loving it. The name Vicarious Clothing came from a desire to create clothing for children that parents wish they could wear….they’ve done a good job because I’d wear it all!
Waylon and I found a fountain, laid out our Gunn And Swain blanket and had a fun summer night eating frozen yogurt before dinner. I call this my essential blanket and recommend it for every busy mom who adventures outdoors. You can also drape this beauty over the end of a bed or couch for a hip indoor look.
This very fresh and new brand is creating modern goods with a vintage bohemian flair for you and your littles. Affordable, eco friendly and made with care right here in the United States. This “Dream Boat” tee and “Stay Little” pennant are two items that certainly celebrate being little! I’m in love.
Dear Cub is a cool new modern brand started by designer and mother Courtney Bivin. In her own words, “I am the mother of an amazing little boy and was getting tired of looking for stylish, modern tees for my little dude and coming up empty handed. I seemed to only be coming across shirts that were sports themed, covered in ridiculous print, or that were too “baby” for my baby.” Dear Cub is a one woman/mother operation offering t-shirts and raglans for littles with trendy, totally awesome unisex designs. All created by me and printed locally in Sacramento, CA by another small business. All designs are printed on 100% jersey cotton tees (unless otherwise noted), come from a smoke free environment, and are made with your little one in mind.
I can’t tell you how much I love this brand and it’s unique designs. Kid + Kind is a playful new clothing line making fun, modern items to match our kids. Jackie the designer, owner, and mom behind Kid + Kind explains, “we launched June 2014, though the inspiration behind it came long before that. Having worked in the fashion industry for nearly 12 years, the thought of ‘going it alone’ has always been in the back of my mind. I have worked for some of the globe’s largest, most recognized brands; and while it has given me a wealth of knowledge of our mass markets, I still believe in creating something unique and special–something that alters the way we perceive ourselves and our possibilities, and even our own world. It was the birth of my daughter that sparked my inherent need to make her world as fun, beautiful, and as inspiring as possible. And it was the sense that I might not be alone in wanting this, that drove me to create Kid + Kind. I believe that there are others out there like me–of my ‘kind’ so-to-speak. And that bringing beauty, of all forms, to the lives of our children is a deeply-seated interest we all share. In all honesty, I just want to share my smiles with you–and have some fun! We definitely want to have some fun!”
One of my favorite things about this brand is the heart behind it. The designs are creative, fun, and great for adults too. But the way this company gives back too those in need and supports their Instagram community is truly inspiring. Established in 2008 and designed by a family in Arizona.
Hope you enjoy these brands and the people behind them as much as me.
